Directions is somewhat a departure from the style I usually
make. The Dallas Bead Society was having a donut challenge.
Each participant obtained a 45mm black onyx
donut and the ability to use it in any way possible to make something
wearable. I knew that most beaders expected me to make it into a
pin, so I decided to try something different. This necklace is
chocked full of wonderful things. I started out with large
chunks of red coral followed with some beautiful blue turquoise. Mix
in shiny sterling silver and add lots of black onyx and you have the
basics. The arrows on the large black onyx donut are my own design,
inspired by Native American styles. They are in size 15 beads in the
four color themes of the necklace and the designs appear on both sides so
that the necklace can be worn either way. The fringe is loaded with
lots of smaller black onyx donuts or pi. I even used one of the
small pi as part of the clasp. And those accents on the strands of
black seed beads are 2mm beads in blue turquoise, sterling silver and red
coral. For the final touch, I added some of the arrows as a
counterbalance. |
